Learn how to protect yourself from online threats for free at Cobb Cybersecurity Day 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta.

New eatery to open at Senior Wellness Center
Cobb County Senior Services is partnering with Café Social House, a neighborhood restaurant based in Mableton, to bring their Southern-inspired comfort fare to the Marietta area. The community is invited to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
Located inside the Senior Wellness Center at 1150 Powder Springs Street, the café will be open for lunch 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday - Friday. Guests can enjoy a menu featuring two meat or vegetarian options and two sides, along with sandwiches and salads.
“At Cobb County Senior Services, our goal is to provide the highest quality programs and services that enrich the lives of older adults,” said Cobb County Senior Services Director Ioana Bovo-Nicolescu. “This partnership with Café Social House helps us enhance that mission by bringing fresh, restaurant-quality meals into a welcoming space where seniors and the broader community can gather and connect.”
Stride down to the Marietta Square and join in the Cobb Make-A-Wish 5K at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. This Peachtree Road Race qualifier is more than just a run — it’s a chance to make wishes come true for local kids with critical illnesses. Angler fun is just a cast away! Children ages 3 - 16 can wrangle some fins at the Fishing Rodeo 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Ebenezer Downs Park, 4057 Ebenezer Road, Marietta. Get in the driver's seat at Truck-A-Palooza, a fun, family-friendly, and educational event 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Town Center at Cobb mall in Kennesaw.
Explore police cars, SWAT trucks, fire rescue trucks, fire engines, heavy construction vehicles, dump trucks, and much more. Admission is $5 per person; maximum $20 per family (up to six family members). Children under 2 years are free. Cash or credit card accepted at the gate. This event is rain or shine.

Take a walk on the historic side
The Mable House Harvest Festival will return with 19th century entertainment 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. Take a free journey into the past with hands-on demonstrations that showcase the skills of early American farmers, including blacksmithing, pottery, and weaving. Learn about the daily tasks of 1800s farm life, such as hand spinning, butter churning, and the preparation of traditional foods like Johnny Cakes.
There will be live music and performances throughout the day. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to relax. There will be plenty of opportunities for all ages to get creative, with activities like candle making, cornhusk doll crafting, and letter stamping.
While you’re there, explore the Mable House and take a free guided tour. The Mable House Historic Grounds is located at 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton.

High school students in grades 9 - 12 can apply now for the 2025-26 Cobb County Youth Commission. The program provides an opportunity to learn about the inner workings of local government, engage in civic affairs, and become leaders of change in the community. In previous years, students have designed service projects, town halls, met and engaged with community leaders, and visited the state capitol. Most sessions will be held in the evenings and some on weekends. Apply by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.

Free microchips for your furry companions

Microchipping offers a permanent, lifelong form of identification, dramatically increasing the chances of a happy reunion if your pet gets lost. The senior center is located at 3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta.
Cobb leaders attended a special ceremony this week, where the group Marsy's Law for Georgia honored U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath for her work in advocating for victims' rights. The ceremony was held at Old Orchard Park in Austell.
