Curious about what happens behind the scenes when you call 911? Then come to the Cobb 911 Kids Expo 10 a.m. - noon Saturday, Sept. 6, at the 911 Operations Center, 140 N. Marietta Parkway, Marietta.
This free, fun-filled event lets kids explore the 911 center, meet friendly dispatchers, and learn when and how to call for help. There will be exciting activities, cool games, and plenty of hands-on fun. Remember, kids need to bring a parent along for the adventure.
Volunteer to assist first responders
The Community Emergency Response Team program helps residents learn disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their areas and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
To join Cobb County CERT, you must be over the age of 16, live, work or worship in Cobb, and pass a criminal history background check. The remaining training classes scheduled for 2025:

Nov. 1, 8 and 15

New learning opportunities are coming to Cobb for the senior set, 55 years and up. Explore the center's new space, meet instructors, and learn about upcoming classes at the grand opening of the new BEST Learning Center 10 - 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Senior Wellness Center in Marietta, 1150 Powder Springs Street, Marietta.
Light refreshments will be available. BEST is a peer-to-peer education program, utilizing specially trained or experienced volunteers who make presentations on important and relevant topics facing seniors today.
Enter your awesome car era at the Cool Cars and Cops Show, 9 a.m. - noon, Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta. Enjoy live music, food trucks, and take a chance on a raffle to win a hunting safari trip to Africa for three people (airfare not included).
This annual charity event supports the Cobb Police Community Affairs Unit and the SWAT Santa program, which provides holiday gifts for children whose families are facing financial hardship.
Come for the rides and food. Stay for the shows and exhibits.The North Georgia State Fair is back to Cobb with amusements for all interests Sept. 18 - 28.
This year's shows include motocross, a demolition derby, monster trucks, bull riders, magic, a circus, a hypnotist, racing pigs, and Frisbee dogs.
New traffic plans: All vehicles will be directed to County Services Parkway. Eastbound Al Bishop Drive will be closed to through traffic starting one hour prior to the fair opening each day. Westbound Al Bishop Drive will be two-laned for incoming fair traffic. Uber/Lyft pick-up and drop-off will be located at the Cobb Safety Village, 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta. Also this year, parking is free.
In addition, Cobb County Senior Services invites adults 55 and older to enjoy a morning of fun and entertainment at Senior Day at the North Georgia State Fair Friday, Sept. 19. Free admission and no registration required. More details about Senior Day here.
